27th July 1996 (son remembering father's words)

I remember my father saying that this intriguing woman had ridden alone for nearly a week to meet the train. It was a job usually undertaken by one of the men on the station but the men were busy attending to some emergency.

She had taken the trouble to change her clothes and on entering the train was asked if she would like anything. "Gin and Tonic" she replied. The men were agog. After some hours the horses were loaded and she was off again.

In 1992 I asked Maurice Joseph and Hugh Barry about her. Neither had any memory of her.
