Ideas

Some ideas can arrive without show,
Waiting in silence outside the back door,
Vain hope to be noticed and swift to go.
Easy for narrow intent to ignore.

And if those that must be cajoled to speak,
Are roused to unfurl and to spread arms wide,
They'll take a firm shape by some deft technique,
Where function and form meet as friends allied.

Then others hijack our lives in full-frames,
Or pound hard at the walls of restrictions,
They rise up above and beyond – like flames
To flare free from our artful afflictions.

Out of the realms of reason fancies break,
To contrive the delights we makers make.
